Greetings all. I have recently been in the process of configuring an FTP server for use behind a firewall where clients log in and drop files in their home directories. This part has been done and is ready to deploy. The tough part tho, is with one user, or group of users. who will need to have access to ALL of these homedirs. Example: user CSR needs access (ln -s (homedir) (clientname) to user1 user2 user3 I have been playing with the permissions, user, and group ownerships, but seem to be missing the boat somewhere. I need to know which set of numbers in the /etc/passwd file affect the user and the group. CSR:x:503:503::/home/CSRin/bash user1:x:500:500::/home/user1/bash user2:x:501:501::/home/user2/bash user3:x:502:502::/home/user3/bash number 500-503 were default to the config listed above. wich is group and which is user? I have tried making both the rght and left colunms the same number, but ownership is not going to the fisrt user on the list. Hence, I am unable to give a particular user access to all the clients in that "group". Is there a seperate file where I establish group ownership? I am running MDK 7.0 with shadow passwdz and PAM. Thanks for any replies. Dan.
