I upgraded a few packages, removed all kde1.x packages, and installed the tar
files with no problems. KDE2 works fine --- all aspects of it. Mandrake RPM's
were causing so many hassles. I don't know why they had to compile against
7.2 beta, and I still think they should have had a better README than what
they put out stating upgrade these packages, and then probably others too.
That is not worth reading! Oh well nuff said............

Hello,

I DID have problems installing and running KDE 2 on 7.1, but as it turns out
it is not BECAUSE it was 7.1. I actually am running a bit of a hybrid
7.1/7.2/Cooker system. I upgraded a few packages too far (I know there was a
reason at the time but cannot think of it now)...for instance, it appears
that the version of libstdc++ you have is very important in regards to the
menu rpm. I had a mismatch in the preferrred version (no warning messages,
etc) for menu such that it was impossible to properly install qt2 or kde 2
rpms. Making menu and libstdc++ match by installing the rpms from 7.1 for
each instead of 7.2 or Cooker corrected that problem. If you try to upgrade
to menu and libstdc++ from Cooker or 7.2 you will have to upgrade a host of
other rpms too - and it isn't worth it.

After this, kde 2 and qt2 installed fine and run MOSTLY OK. There are
problems with kde 2 itself...bugs.
