Hostname resolution.  You need to specify the DNS server you are using  in 
/etc/resolv.conf.  Try pinging a known IP address outside of your network 
from the Mandrake box (ie run nslookup on the Debian box for www.cnn.com). 
 If that ping goes through, it is most certainly what it sounds like from 
the above, DNS resolution.

The format for the /etc/resolv.conf (in case its different, I haven't 
gotten my hands on a box to put Debian on) is:
        nameserver      10.0.0.2
        nameserver      10.0.0.3
and on and on until you run out of nameservers you want to check.
