I installed Mandrake 7.2 with low security settings, and I have the same
problem with my USB Intellieye. It worked fine under install and after install
as well, because I go into initlevel 5 right away. But after a while, when
DPMS switches off my system, by the time it wakes up, the system is frozen (I
mean no mouse under X). If I switch to console, I can see the same error
message: "no /dev/mouse". I re-linked /dev/usbmouse to /dev/mouse but it did
not fix the problem.

Reading what you experienced, I wonder what happens if you try to link
/dev/mouse to /dev/psaux ? Would it fix the problem? Could you take a look at
whether /dev/mouse link is actually exist on your system after doing your
trick? And if it exists, where it points to?
