So I made a hardlink "ln /dev/usbmouse /dev/mouse". Rebooted. Checked the console, fire up mc, mouse working fine. I thought, well, it is sorted. I left my computer on for the night, then in the morning cursor is frozen in X, switching to console, getting the same erro message: "oops, error /dev/mouse no such device gpm invoked from gpm.c (170)" What is going on? I am almost at the point to stop the gpm demon and forget about console mouse, but this would not be a nice way to solve a problem..
