Help me!

I have a bad rc.sysinit file and it prevents me from being
able to bootup linux. I have a GOOD copy of rc.sysinit
available but I cannot get in to replace the bad with the
good.

Starting linux in single mode, my / directory (/dev/hda6
on my system) is always mounted read-only mode. A boot
disk is useless because it still relies on the rc.sysinit
on the harddrive.

I need to know how to start linux in single mode with the
root directory mounted read-write.

My mountpoints are setup as follows:

/boot
/
/usr
/usr/local
/home

I need / to mount in single mode read-write so I can replace
my bad rc.sysinit with the good one.
