I've come across a wierd problem with the X 4.0.1 server in Mandrake. The
screen displays correctly but the top left and right corners are distorted -
they kind of come inwards about a centimetre from where the corner should be.
For those using fixed-width readers it looks a little like this...

 --------------------

I've had this problem in the past when I've had the resolution up at 1024x768
but it generally went away if I set the resolution to 800x600. It occurs with
both the 3.x and 4.x that Mandrake 7.2 offers and does it regardless of
resolution this time.

In fact I even saved a backup of my old XF86CONFIG for X 4.0.[0?] which I
manually installed on my old system which worked, and tried using it - same
results. This leads me to speculate that the X shipped with Mandrake 7.2 is
buggy, especially as when installing it says it's installing the "current
snapshot" or somesuch.

Not only that but it's crashed on several occasions in re-installs on settings
that have previously worked on my hardware, sometimes it even works the next
time. Speaking of hardware I have a 14' Digital monitor and S3 Virge DX. Any
ideas?

Thanks,
Steve
