Hi, I would like to try and get an LDAP server running in our organisation (just to see what we can do with it), and have been trying to get openldap running. I am following the quick-start guide at http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin/quickstart.html I assumed I could skip the parts up to configuration. I made a simple configuration file according to the instructions, started the ldap server, edited my hosts.allow to allow me to connect, and tried the test they suggest: $ ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContexts Firstly, the -x argument seems not to exist. Trying: $ ldapsearch -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContexts results in an error message: ldap_search: No such object Trying to query the server with a client (Star Office in this case) returns the same error (No such object) OK, working with the OpenLDAP 1.2 Quick start guide: http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/182.html # ldapsearch -L -b "dc=cae, dc=cp, dc=za" -W "(objectclass=*)" Enter LDAP Password: ldap_search: No such object So, has anyone got this working, or should I just continue RTFM'ing ?
