Hi I don't know why, but all of a sudden X applications (e.g netscape and Xterm) don't look in /etc/X11/app-defaults for X application-spesific resources files (e.g.: Netscape, XTerm). With netscape the result is fatal: it gives an error message that begins with: netscape-communicator: couldn't find our resources? stracing it shows indeed that it does look there: $ strace netscape 2>&1 |grep app-defaults access("/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/he/app-defaults/Netscape", R_OK) = 0 stat("/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/he/app-defaults/Netscape", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=28130, ...}) = 0 open("/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/he/app-defaults/Netscape", O_RDONLY) = 9 I tried creating a new user, and that user seems to have the same problem. I can't remember anything special I did today as root that might have caused this. The man page for X (1), and netscape's error message mention: XAPPLRESDIR, XFILESEARCHPATH, XUSERFILESEARCHPATH as environment vars that might affect the resources lookup. However I don't recall seeing them around in Mandrake's init scripts (or in Mandrake's X init script). Any ideas where to look for this? -- Tzafrir Cohen mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.technion.ac.il/~tzafrir
