Hi Benjamin, I am a newbie, and for the most part have no idea what I am
talking about. Nevertheless, I had a couple of thoughts: One, when you install
a fresh installation, you have the option to keep the same partitions. When
you select this option during the installation, all of your files are kept
intact, and when the package installation procedure starts, it finds these
files. Therefore, doesn't install them. I have run old software on new
kernels. You must install all of the dependencies in most cases. Forcing
installation is probably not a good idea. Good luck, and best regards,

Rich Chase
