Like I posted before check the links in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d or /etc/rc.5d/ for the script "network" in /etc/rc.d/init.d. I had the same problem upgrading. I was able to get the network running again by simply running "ln -s /etc/rc.d/network /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/SXXnetwork" where 'XX' is some two digit number.
