I don't understand why it took so long for messages to appear - the file was empty for many hours, even after trying MandrakeUpdate multiple times. In any case, this is the pertinent, me thinks, entries at the end of .xsession-errors: KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9 Major opcode: 14 KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9 Major opcode: 14 Any ideas? --- Instead of launching it from the desktop link try opening an xterm and typing /usr/X11R6/bin/MandrakeUpdate.real This will give you more descriptive errors. Note: While I may be wrong the above indicates that it is missing a pixmap (or has a corrupt one). Are you by any chance using GTK/QT/GNOME themes? If so, try another one. (You have to set them from Gnome). BTW: have you tried running MandrakeUpdate from Gnome? What happens? -JMS
