One of our LM 7.1 machines has samba dying every few hours, with the
following message appearing after "smbatatus":
ERROR: Failed to initialise share modes
Can't initialise shared memory - exiting

This is a stock 7.1 machine with all current updates on our local
unofficial mirror (last update available is from 30 Nov), except that I
had installed the libc6 contribs version of samba 2.0.7 since Mandrake
did not have the package available at the stage I needed it. This
message may have appeared shortly after Mandrake Update updated samba,
but cannot be sure. Is anyone else having this problem ?

We have another machine that is basically installed identically, except
that is is the samba Primary Domain Controller for our Windows NT
Domain. It does not have this problem, although it also ran the libc6
contribs version of samba.

Any help in this regard would be appreciated. The machine is our mail
server, and we want to make a windows app that will generate .procmailrc
files, thus need access to the machine via windows almost permanently if
our users are going to use procmail.
