Really strange.

I'm trying to do a 7.2 install of the

        "Linux-Mandrake Download Edition Odyssey-i586 20001027 15:47"

using the network.img boot disk in text mode (hit f1, 'text')

The hardware is an IBM box, details available if anyone needs them.

FTP server is my laptop running mandrake (7.02, I think), with the
CD (mentioned above) mounted on /mnt/cdrom

Boot off the floppy, tell it to use the laptop for an ftp install with
non-anonymous ftp access.

on vc3 I see:

* mounting ram3 on /mnt/stage2 as ext2
* creating directory /tmp/stage2 rc = 0
* callin gmount(/tmp/ram3, /tmp/stage2, ext2, -1058209792, (nil))
* removing device file /tmp/ram3
* method selection completed
* writing network information to tmp/ifcfg-eth0
* state saved to /tmp
* symlink /tmp/stage2 failed

on vc2 I see nothing.

on vc1 it says 'welcome to linux mandrake'
(the last thing it said before that was:

        retreiving base...
        loading second stage ramdisk...
then it blanked.

on vc4 it says something about choosing my ethernet card (which seems to work
fine)

on vc5 it says:

        <6> device lo entered promiscuous mode

I finally switched to using my Sun/solaris box as the NFS server to do an NFS install,
and its working perfectly.

I'm completely baffled. I don't see any errors anywhere other than that
last one about symlink failing. Oh, well.
