See cause 2a for solution. But aren't these just triggers to the problem in user 500? Unless I've missed something, it seems that the right solution is to fix whatever user 500 is doing... > CAUSE 3a: sending to more than one addressee. > Examples: > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], <self>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], <self>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] So expert@mandrax == [EMAIL PROTECTED], eh? Wow, learn something new every day ;-) Does the '<self>' entry seem to have anything to do with it? > CAUSE 3b: sending to both "To:" and "Cc:" > CAUSE 3c: sending with BCC: which is not detectable from the messages we get. Actually, I have another theory. Consider the following: 1 - Someone (the mythical 'someone'!) recently commented that re-mailings seem to happen more when the weather gets bad. 2 - I have set up a teergrube on my home machine (the expert list does not go there, though), and when I send to my home machine from my laptop (which runs linux - I think its mandrake 7.01), the email is received just fine, but the sending side sees the receiving side close early (or so IT thinks!), so it RE-QUEUES the email! A little while later, it retries, succeeds, but thinks it did not, and RE-QUEUES it again! Perhaps, in bad weather, the number of errors increases and we start getting disconnects AFTER the email has actually been queued on the remote machine, but the list sender thinks not. Just a wild stab in the dark (OUCH!). Finally - I'd be willing to set up a userid (on my home machine, so teergrube may cause us problems, maybe not) where people could send all duplicates to for me or 'us' (hoping I get volunteers! ;-) to peruse, if all the other guesses fail and we need more info. (like, to see if its truly random, or if only the same messages get duplicated, etc. And we'd probably want just a few folks to forward ALL their messages they get from the list. If anyone wants to work with me on this - assuming the problem is not found at the user 500 point ;-) - email me and we'll start talking...) (eek, another mailing list! ;-) (yikes, I may have to buy a new hard drive to hold it all!, and I'm sure my 44k dialin will get overloaded - oh, well, its all for the cause ;-) (and I hope we won't need it for TOO long, also!) rusty Rusty Carruth Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Voice: (480) 345-3621 SnailMail: Schlumberger ATE FAX: (480) 345-8793 7855 S.
