No .... I have Apache/PHP4/MySQL on my Mandrake 7.2 working together and I
did not have to compile anything ...

[root@duron /root]# rpm -qa | grep -i php

mod_php-4.0.3pl1-1mdk
php-devel-4.0.3pl1-1mdk
php-manual-4.0.3pl1-1mdk
php-mysql-4.0.3pl1-1mdk

php-imap-4.0.3pl1-1mdk
