Hello List,
I got 4.0.2 from XFree86.org and am trying to get it to run with LM 7.2, 2.2.17-21mdk
kernel and the
SiS6326 chip. It needs Option sw_cursor to get rid of the white square mouse pointer
but when I boot I
get a black screen with the outline of the login gui but no icons or fonts. I tried
the backup xdm and
got a blue screen but the same blank outline gui. When I ctrl-alt-F1, log in and go
ctrl-alt-F7 I get
the normal login screen and can log in as root or user, but I can't log out - it
reverts to the outline
login screen. If I log in this way, things work but there are corruptions in some gui
interfaces and
strange behaviour around the border of a term when using fetchmail, mutt etc. X
-version says I am
running 4.0.2.
I have read the discussion about the font path set to unix/-1 but I used xf86config to
configure X and
the font paths are in /etc/X11/XF86Config. It almost seems like the 24 bit color
problem, but I'm using
16bit.
/var/log/XFree86.0.log says (EE) SIS(0):video password not initialize but I don't
think that's the
problem.
Anyone able to help sort this out? I have had no success in the past with reporting
problems to
XFree86.org. Of course, I can always go back to 4.0.1.
