I know of two systems that have done this, one mine. "rpm --rebuilddb"
fixed them. The cause in my case was MandrakeUpdate locking up during
an install and corrupting the rpm db. I think this was the case in the
other incident to.
For Mandrake, how about a "rebuild db" button on MandrakeUpdate and a
test for a corrupt db? - this seems to be a common problem, and also
another look at MandrakeUpdate itself seems in order.
