Try the following, you need this to work before samba (which gets the print job from cups) will be able to print through your win box:
smbclient -L <netbios_name_of_windows_box>
If you get errors, post them and your /etc/smb.conf file.

I thought I'd see if anyone here had leads for me.I decided to try out CUPS, partially because I bought a new Epson 980 and CUPS had good support for it. It is attached to /lp0 and it prints like a champ. I'm very happy with that setup. Further, I went to Till's site and downloaded all the updates. I followed that up by printing out the CUPS Admin Manual because sometimes having the paper in front of me is easier than reading on the screen. :) After all of that, I have my Windows machines happily using their driver for the Epson to print through the samba server. Now, all that remains is to be able to print from Linux to the HP LJ 5L attached to my Windows 98 desktop using share level security. That one is still a no go for me. Whenever I try to connect to it, I get ye olde connection refused. I had a password on the printer share, but this being share level security, it doesn't come attached to a user name, so I guess I'm confused at how to configure it using kups or printerdrake. I've tried setting password with no user name, guest with the password, a profile name on the Windows box with the password, a samba user name with the password, a samba user name with the samba user's password, root with the password and root with root's password. None of these have worked. Now, I suppose I could set up the Linux server to act as the domain master for my workgroup and have the samba server verify passwords from there. But I'd really prefer to do share level for certain reasons. Does anyone know how to successfully connect to a share level printer on Windows using cups and samba? TIA for any info... Holly
