Yeah! I've seen this too. It *might* have to do with the fact
that I deliberately killed syslogd for a while (I didn't want all
the kernel printfs I had in a test module to go to disk). This was
on 7.1.
What does the system do when syslogd is not running?
Send mail?
Annoying.
