I've not had to use a separate fan with HDD drives in some time (though my
first HD on my first XT didn't last long, and that particular box used to run
way hot in the summers).

I just retired (because of lack of space) a Maxtor 325 meg IDE drive that was
in constant working operation since September 1993. (!) And, it's still good,
with no bad sectors. You couldn't tell it was used really except for maybe
the small size of the drive. I've also a four-year old Maxtor 1.6 gig drive
the system, and a new 30 gig IBM deskstar (7200 rpm) in the system - I just
got that one last month.

Perhaps the 10K rpm drives need fans, I'm not sure. My brother has two scsi
drives, they may be 10K, I'm not sure, but he has a little case fan mounted
on the front of the case just where the drives are.

Hey, your name sounds familiar. Were you on PCBoard nets around the late
1980s -early 1990s?
