[expert] Bt 878, bcast2000 et al

Harddrake identifies it as Bt 878 
LM7.2 -- kernel-2.2.17-21mdk
video yes sound no
I have video working 
I Cannot get a squeak from sound. 
xawtv gives static,
bcast2000 give silence.
I do have the little audio patch cord in place
between tv card audio out and sound audio in.

Sound card works great for everything else!

Any help would be appreciated
