Hello:

I just installed LM7.2 in my PC, and after the install I wanted to
compile a custom kernel, but something bad happened. After doing 'make
bzImage', the computer gets slower and slower to respond, and after some
2 minutes it freezes, but there a lot of HD activity. I left the
computer overnight, and in the morning it was still 'locked' and with
heavy HD activity, so I had to reset it. I've reinstalled LM 7.2 twice,
but the problem persists. I tried with kernel 2.2.18, and got the same
result. If I make a 'make modules' before 'make bzImage', it takes like
20 minutes to complete, which is way too long in my opinion. My PC is a
Celeron566 with 96MB RAM and a VIA mobo.

My other problem is with cups. During instalation, the printer setup
went flawlessly, and the test print page was ok. Then, after the first
login, i wanted to print a document, and nothing happened. I opened
'kups', and it reported the no rpnter was installed, so I proceeded to
add a printer, but it reported that no printer port was found. Then, I
loged in as root, but couldn't print either. 'kups' still reported no
installed printers and 'qtcups' gave me this erros message: "couldn't
connect to cups server". I checked, and 'cups' was initialized at
bootup. Then I launched the printer utility in DrakConf, and there the
printer was present, and the test page was printed. Now 'kups' reported
the printer as installed, and I could print from within any X
application. After rebooting the system, the problem came up again, and
only after just opening and closing the printer utility in DrakConf did
the printer work (There's no need to set up the printer again).

Has anyone else experienced these problems? Is there a fix?

Thank you.
