Please turn off html in your mailer.
I replaced kdebase with an old version from the
supporte Mandrake updates(kdebase-2.0-7mdk.)
This has fixed kdm and has not caused any other problem that
I have found with - caveat emptor.
Most of my kde packages are still kde*-2.1-0.20010115
