I did a search yesterday for 20010109 but couldn't find it.  That was when I 
decided to try the deletion of .kderc and my .kde directory - which produces 
a SLIGHT improvement.  

Since the next kde 2.1 package release is tomorrow (Monday) I have decided to 
first try that before trying again to find the older build, if necessary.  
Beyond that, my setup is essentially the same as yours, package-wise.
