I did my configuration with drakgw as well. It doesn't ever provide me with an option
to turn connection sharing on or off. Here is the sequence of questions I get, along
with what happens when I choose each possible answer:
1. Would you like to setup the Internet Connection Sharing?
OK = program continues
Cancel = program quits and makes no changes
2. Warning, the network adapter is already configured. Would you like to reconfigure?
OK = program continues, and ENABLES Internet Connection Sharing, then quits
Cancel = program quits and makes no changes
If I invoke drakgw with the --verbose argument, I am also prompted with this question
after I select OK to question #1 above: "There is only one configured network adapter
on your system: ... Would you like to setup yor Local Area Network with that adapter?"
If I select OK here, it just goes on to step 2, or if I select cancel, it quits as
always, and makes no changes.
So as you can see, there is no option to turn it off. I am left with a crippled
system that attempts to turn on Internet connection sharing upon ever boot, and fails
miserably every time.
I also now realize that Mandrake's Internet connection sharing feature is broken in
two ways:
1. It is incompatible with the current kernel (no support for iptables)
2. It is incompatible with VMware (it doesn't recognize my vmnet1 virtual network
interface)
These are two major bugs with it, and I wish I knew about them before I had ever
turned on this feature, seeing as it's apparently impossible to turn it off.
Please, if anyone knows how to turn it off, I would be extremely grateful if they
would share this secret!
Thank you,
Paul
