unset DISPLAY worked, thanks.... odd though how the 
upgrade "seems" to have caused this.........

You have to do the xhost + on the machine mrroboto, not on the
machine you want to run the x-based program on.

Also, I just sent something about undefining DISPLAY, the answer
in bash is to say:

unset DISPLAY

rc
