Hi,

I have an ABIT BE6-II motherboard which has four IDE ports,
two DMA/33 (IDE1, IDE2), and two DMA/66 (IDE3, IDE4).

I have nothing connected to IDE1, and a CD-DVD and a
CD-RW connected to IDE2,

I have two hard drives connected to IDE3, and nothing
connected to IDE4.

I installed the version of Linux that came with the
motherboard (Gentus, which is really Redhat 6.1 with
some "enhancemens."), all with no problem.

However, since Redhat 6.1 is so old, I wanted to install
something later, and tried Redhat 7, and Mandrake 7.1.

Both of these fail the installation, saying thet there is
no valid device on which to create a file system.

I addume the problem is that the devices recognized
by Linux on my system are /dev/hdb (CD-DVD),
/dev/hdd (CD-RW), and /dev/hde (hard drive no. 1),
and /dev/hdf (hard drive no. 2).

Is there some patch or boot parameter that will get
the redhat and mandrake installers to recognize my
drives? Obviously, it can be done, because Gentus
does it.
