Hello everyone and peace to all who read further :)

My consultant and I have been working really hard to get a simple fax
solution working for me here at my administrative office. So far, Hylafax was
just way too complicated to set up (not to mention way overkill for my
needs). So we have been evaluating PMFax as a result. However, we haven't
been able see anywhere near the quality of the incoming faxes as we have from
efax.

The problem, efax was documented very well to work with lpr, but there isn't
any information on integrating it with CUPS yet. I've included some doc's
that I found very helpful in setting up PMFax which also seemed to illiminate
what we need to do if we wanted efax to work (which is what we would much
rather have.. :).

Can someone please comment?

Thanks so very much in advance. We have been putting a lot of effort to
convert our office over from "the dark side", and this would really help.

Peace,

Mark

Using fxfilter - PMfax for Linux includes the fxfilter program to pass
Postscript or text data to the PMfax program. Postscript data is converted
into a fax document, and PMfax automatically converts text to fax when
necessary. For applications that let you specify a print command, use
fxfilter as their print command and they can create fax documents. You can
also pipe directly to fxfilter (e.g., ls | fxfilter, or ls | mpage |
fxfilter).

For systems using CUPS printing - Installing and using the fax printer (fx)-
For systems like Mandrake 7.2 that use the CUPS printing system, the method
of creating the fax printer is a bit different. The steps are as follows:Be
sure you have PMfax for Linux v4.0g or later. Copy the fxfilter program from
the PMfax directory to the /usr/lib/cups/backend directory. Insert the
following text into the /etc/cups/printers.conf file:
<Printer fx>
Info fax printer
Location
DeviceURI fxfilter:/dev/null
State Idle
Accepting Yes
JobSheets none none
</Printer>Restart cupsd or reboot your system so that CUPS will see the
changes and create the fx printer.
