For what it's worth, I had a problem that prevented LM7.2 from installing and
solved it by adding the kernel option
ide1=serialize
to the install where ide1 was my cdrom. It turns out that the cdrom-ide
driver was upgraded going to the kernel in 7.2. The newer cdrom-ide driver
is perhaps more efficient and pushes the hardware harder so my VIA chipset
would screw up occasionally. The problem was just bad enough to prevent a
large install, but I could sometimes get through a smaller 900 MB install.
The system would hang hard at a different place each time with ctl-alt-del
ineffective. This was in a 14-machine computer lab and all machines had
this problem with 7.2 but no problem with 7.1.
