Hello all,

The succinct version is as follows:
Given:  LM 7.2, Kernel 2.4.1mdk RPM, HP CDRW 7200+, IDE-SCSI (/dev/hdd),
  Grub entry "hdd=ide-scsi", nothing but the kernel has been changed.

The drive *does* mount and write using 2.2.18mdk
The drive does *not* mount but *will* write using 2.4.1mdk
Where is the problem and how do I fix it ?

I found and repaired the supermount problem (bad path to supermount.o in
mandrake-everytime). Other than the issue with the cdrw, I'm quite
enthusiastic about the whole distribution and Linux/GNU in general. If need
be, I'll simply forget about mounting this drive and use the other CD drive
for mounting (/dev/hdc). Is there a heads up page for system configuration
changes when using 2.4 series kernels ? I know that the new devfs will be a
significant change for some of us. ;-}

Thanks for the assistance. I've only joined 2 days ago and already I've
gotten my money's worth.  :-p
