As someone else pointed out, you can have some luck by hacking with
modules.conf, but first check something more straightforward. Go into your
BIOS (usually "Del" when first booting up) and see if there's a
"Plug-n-play operating system" setting in there - if so, try changing it
to "No". I've got two network cards in this machine, and with that setting
set to "No", the installer finds them no trouble - without it, it doesn't
find either of them.
