Totally depressed by rpm4.0. Last friday I uninstalled rpm4.0 by chance.
Then I struggled to recover it last weekend.
I tried install it with tar ball from www.rpm.org. Everything was
fine except the error message "Unable to open NONE/lib/rpm/rpmrc for
reading: No such file or directory" when I tried to query any installed
rpm package.
So I attempted to install rpm4.0 of mandrake release. However, it
complained lots of dependency errors. When I install with "--nodeps",
it said "

Please verify the setting of the macro %_dbapi using "rpm --showrc"
and configure "%_dbapi -1" (e.g. create and/or edit /etc/rpm/macros).
