     I use the rpms from any cooker mirror to install 
source/headers/etc,  currently
kernel-utils-2.4.1-4mdk
kernel-doc-2.4.1-4mdk
kernel-headers-2.4.1-4mdk
kernel-source-2.4.1-4mdk
   I also updated to modutils-2.4.2-1mdk.  During config, I enable '2.2 
style ipchains' support, and build ppp* in rather than as modules, but 
leave ReiserFS and supermount as modules.  Modules, particularly 
supermount.o, are in a different dir than 7.2's 'mandrake_everytime' 
checks, so you need to edit that file, or supermount will be disabled 
and 'fstab' overwritten when you boot a 2.4.x.
     If you use  http://mandrakeuser.org/install/kupgrade3.html   as a 
guide, including the suggested Makefile edits, all the proper files and 
links will be created in /boot for you, just make sure lilo.conf is 
correct and boot the new kernel.
