Hi all,

I fixed the network cart problem by ditching the 3com and installing a
realtec 10/100 pci and it worked straight away...

I can ping my notebook (running win2000) but my notebook can't ping the
server back...

I don't have dialup configured yet,, but need to get the latest RPMS, from
the notebook onto the linux box... so i figured that I would FTP it up,,
(the last time I installed I did a complete 7.2 install, everything,, (got
the space,, why not?)

so wu-ftp is on,, its in inetd.conf , and port 21, ftp I think,, is not
listening,,, In fact I briefly got the notebook to ping the linux box, so I
ran a port scanner on it to see what ports where open,, it listed only 1024
? and 6000 x11

What is blocking all the ports? now I can't even ping the linux box and I am
wandering if somehow I turned on portsentry...

Can anyone give me a hint as to what is blocking the ports and how to open
them (only the ports I plan to use anyway)

my old redhat box 6.2 had ftp and telnet working straight out of the box.. I
was sorta expecting the same thing from MDK7.2

I printed out the 7.2 refference manual,, (all 269 pages of it,,) so I will
have a look in there as well...

many thanks..

Compile it in the kernel. That is what I did. I have a 3c905-TX card. I use
the 3c90x.o module. I could never get 7.2 to load the correct module even
though it was there, so I just went and compiled it into the kernel instead
of a module in my 2.4 kernel. Hope this helps.
