Hi there,
        My laptop did some very peculiar first time I installed mdk. I 
knew it was ok cause I already had SuSE running on it before. It 
was the automounter that was killing me most of the time:o( If you 
installed it 'enabled' (default), just disabling automount in 
linuxconf doesn't solve it. For me at least only a clean new 
install did that:o(
