Dear friends:
Well, I got rid of Netscape 6.01. Hopefully, the next Netscape version
based on Mozilla 1.0 will be the real thing.
Meanwhile, I just downloaded and installed the LATEST Mozilla .8, hot
off the wire. Everything went smoothly. I then downloaded the Java JRE
plugin by going to a Java site and downloading the plugin as directed.
Well, the download and installation of Java 2 (Plugin version 1.30 went
very smoothly. I could see the installation process in the status bar of
the download screen and I could see all the files being installed into
the /home/sher/mozilla/mozilla directory (the "package" directory has
now been renamed "mozilla" so we the mozilla executable is now, believe
it or not, /home/sher/mozilla/mozilla/./mozilla). Well, I closed down
Mozilla .8, relaunched it, went back to the applet (the one under Debug
in the Mozilla menu) and I was faced with again a request to download
the same Java 2 plugin and the applet refused to work. This has happened
before in previous Mozilla's. I have never been able to figure this out.
Finally, the applet, in some cases, appears to the left of the screen
instead of being centered, as it is clearly meant to be and as it
clearly appears in Netscape, Opera and IE.
Would really appreciate your help. Does anyone else have this problem.
