So basically your system does not boot at all right ?
I know a different way to get it back.
I too screwed my MBR.
I ran a virus scan in 98 ( me dual boot ) a while back and it said my
MBR had changed and did i wanna restore it.
Me said yes :(
until i realised that the change in the MBR was caused by me
reinstalling mandrake 7.1 2 weeks previous.
so me had machine not booting.
scratched head for a few minutes, grabbed a beer :) thinking a had a
long nite ahead to reinstall 98 ( it used to play games ) and linux.
so i boot machine up on mandrake cd 1
went thru a reinstall - essentially i selected nothing to install
lilo was then installed to the MBR
machine was then salvaged.
a bit a hacking to lilo.conf to tidy up the extra bits added by the
second install
me then had another beer :)
