[expert] sylpheed mailer configure problem

I'm trying to install sylpheed-0.4.61 on Mandrake 7.2 (the sylpheed home page 
lists Linux Mandrake 7.2 as supporting the product).  When I attempt to run 
./configure the autoconf stuff chokes looking for something called 
glib-config.  Mandrake 7.2 has glib-1.2.8-2mdk installed, but I can find no 
trace of a file glib-config.

Any ideas?
