[expert] HD Optimization / The Big Secret of ALT-GR

Two questions..

1. What exactly does the hd optimization-option in the mdk installer do ? How 
can i know if my hd supports it ? What are the risks ?

2. I've asked about my problem with ALT-GR behaving like ALT in XF86 4 in 
almost every linux-realted place now, including mandrakeexpert.com, but noone 
seems to know (or won't tell me). Please, tell me the answer to The Secret 
of getting ALT-GR to actually behave like ALT-GR in XFree86 4.0.1! :)
