well using lspcidrake it gave me
cirrus logic|crystal cs4281 pci audio (multimedia_audio unknown)
vendor=0x127a device=0x2013 (unknown unknown)

i also rebooted my linux box and then tried to get a listing of modules using cat 
/proc/modules

and all of the snd modules were gone, tried reinstalling alsa drivers but nothing came 
back up

used modprobe snd-card-cs4281 and was told it was busy or unavailable
