That makes sense.

In that case, still shooting blind (more or less) i would suggest the following:
1. Perhaps there is no Makefile b/c Jamie didn't run a configure script?
2. How to clean up from an old installation? Well you (Jamie) could do a "make clean" 
etc but
again, you'd need the Makefile to do that. This is the process that is used if you're 
going to
recompile your kernel w/ new modules etc etc. You do a "make clean" before you 
actually do the
"make bzImage"....
