8.0 pre-beta installed great, actually it is still
running on my laptop. My hardware for the desktop is:
PII-450
Gigabyte MB 440BX
256M RAM
hda - Fijitsu 6.4G
hdb - zip 100
hdc - Fijitsu 6.4G
hdd - Sony CD-RW
SB Live
Matrox G450
3Com 905b
Hauppauge Win/TV-radio
Adaptec 2930 SCSI Controller
Supra Express 56k modem (ISA)

With the exception of the Matrox, and the SB live
all have been housed here for the last two years
just fine. SB Live was AWE64, Matrox was Mystique

I would agree with you and the incompatibility issue
except that I find it odd that RH 7.1b does the same
I understand it is beta, but unless something really
changed from prebeta to beta, it would stand to
reason it would work as well.

I made a ghost image of my C drive (win 98) and will
restore it this weekend to hda. I still need to use
win for a couple of things (scanner for one)
Last weekend when I started all of this, I delpart'd
both drives, re-fdisked (dos), and formatted via dos
CMOS settings have not changed with the exception of
using agp instead of PCI for video.
Any help appreciated,

Brian

Actually it doesn't matter if they're named hda and hdd...of which I've
had already. Linux doesn't care about that. It sounds as though theres
incompatability between the PC and the Mdk8.0beta software. Which isn't
surprising. Thats why they call it "beta". :)

What type of Hardware are you using in this machine? That makes a
difference with Mandrake 7.2 and above. More so then ever before.
they're tightening their hardware restrictions and standards to provide
a better product, a more table and usable platform enterprise solutions.
It's getting there, but these little things can be a pain if you're not
aware of them.
