BBS's are obsolete, and (mostly) impractical for global use. Did you mean
you would prefer a newsgroup instead of a mailing list?
Some high-traffic newsgroups used to be accessibles as newsgroups as well -
the old bit.net lists were, I believe. But that's rare these days.
There are other ways to handle this amount of email traffic - getting the
list as a digest, or comprehensive use of filters and mailboxes.
