Gary,
I had the same problem and cured it with a cups update from the update site, 
1.1.4, I think. There is a newer version available there now.
Probably be best to remove all the cups related stuff from the original 
install too.
During subsiquent installs I found that using only the first two disks of the 
set (Power Pack Deluxe) kept the installer from installing the Pay for Play 
drivers.
