Purchasing note: don't buy a Viking USB Modem, they do not support the USB ACM. 3Com has a couple that do, as does Zoom. There are a couple others. Read the documentation in the kernel source tree, there is a list there that has compatible modems. (I can't remember the exact document, but `locate acm' turned it up.) However, on the good side of things, the usb support seems to work pretty doggone good. We plugged the modem in, then did a cat /proc/bus/usb/devices and the modem showed up in there, just like it ought to. The only thing that 8b3 didn't do right out of the box was load the acm module, and that took nothing to fix. So, after all that, I guess I will be nabbing some ISO's over the weekend, since reports on 8.0b3 are pretty much useless at this point. :) But, I did say that I would keep you posted on the modem, and I have! -- Craig Sprout Network Administrator Crown Parts and Machine http://www.crownpartsandmachine.com
