Seems like you are using an old BX chipset motherboard too. Wonder if it is a Asus motherboard. My P2B-S had a simliar symptom too. 7.2 worked fine, upgrading to 8.0 was fine. But fully reinstall, tons of problems. First 8.0 CD-Rom could not boot at all.
