This is the pain of Samba.  You have to understand Windows networking in
more detail than Microsoft will explain it.

Describe more clearly exactly where you're trying to get from where, and
somone might be able to help.  I know I can't.  

I think you should read the samba docs and book you bemoaned at the
beginning.

Read down to the stuff about 'msdos' 'vfat' and 'ntfs'  Short form:

mkdir /mnt/win9x
mount -t vfat /dev/<YourWin9xDrive> /mnt/win9x

mkdir /mnt/winNT
mount -t ntfs /dev/<YourNTFSDrive> /mnt/winNT
