I have both a Kenwood 52x TRUE-X ide cdrom and a
Creative 6424 CDRW ide writer. These drives worked fine under Mandrake 7.2,
which also set up my ide-scsi configuration. When I tried to do an install for
8.0 I kept getting error messages saying that second stage install couldn't
load, when trying to install from the cd in the Kenwood drive. I then
noticed that the kernel was identifying the Kenwood drive as a cdrom/dvd. But
the drive has no dvd capabilities, its a cdrom. Well I then put the cd in the
creative drive and tried then install and it worked fine.
So Mandrake 8 is installed know but is having
problems with my cdroms. When I try to enter the /mnt directory from package
manager it locks up the program. So I then tried to enter that directory from a
terminal and you can get to /mnt but cant get to /mnt/cdrom1 or 2. The terminal
locks. When I do a shutdown it can not unmount the cdrom either. So I think the
bug might be cdrom related.
Have any of you had these problems or heard of
them. If any one could help that would be great.
Thanks.
