Hello:

I'm writing in regards to problems I'm having with
Shogo: MAD and Sin (both by Hyperion) using OpenGL.

I have the following system:
Linux Mandrake 8.0 Final
Kernel 2.4.3
XFree86 4.0.3
nvidia 0.9-769 drivers from nvidia.com
Hercules Prophet II (GeForce 2 GTS with 64 Megs DDR
RAM)
Soundblaster Live!
Intel Pentium III 866Mhz
512 Megs PC-133 RAM

If I launch Shogo: MAD with OpenGL, it crashes with
the following error:

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute
Deployed)

Sin will launch, but runs so slow that it is
unplayable. Sound stutters, the mouse is ignored, and
key presses are not registered until several seconds
later.

Both games are completely unplayable using OpenGL.

If I use Software modes, both games work, but they are
ugly and not particularly fun. Has anyone
successfully played these games using OpenGL with an
Nvidia card and Mandrake 8.0? If so, did you have to
do anything special?

Also, as an aside, Shogo: MAD originally was causing
me Kernel Panics which led to several hard reboots.
For whatever reason, Shogo: MAD could not handle the
supermount. I wonder if the autorun.inf could cause a
problem with that. Sin had no problems with
supermount. The only substantial difference that I
noticed between the two games was that Sin lacked the
autorun.inf that Shogo had. If you will be installing
Shogo, deactivate your supermount for the install.
Once it is installed, you can activate supermount
again. If anyone has a fix or knows what causes this,
I would be interested in that as well.

The exact Kernel panic message was:

Kernel panic: SUPERMOUNT panic (device 0/11):
supermount_put_write_acess: filesystem not write
accessed

Thanks. Take care.
